Schmaltz was unconscious the first 13 games of the season, scoring eight goals and 10 assists. A few fantasy owners may have jumped ship when he posted back-to-back scoreless efforts. Schmaltz showed that might have been premature by lighting the lamp each of his past two appearances.
He posted 52 points his second season in Chicago in 2017-18 but struggled after he was dealt the following season to Arizona. Schmaltz started to find his game in 2021-22, posting 59 points, and showed that was no fluke by tallying 58, 61, and then a career-high 63 points last season. His 21 points in 17 games is certainly a bit of a stretch, but given the talent on the roster, should not be viewed as excessive.
Finishing with a point-per-game might be a stretch. But 65-70 points certainly looks within reach.
