Sidney Crosby suffered a knee injury in the Olympics that is expected to sideline the veteran superstar at least four weeks. When the injury happened, the first thought of many was that the surprising Penguins would fall down the standings, Pittsburgh is hanging in, going 4-3-3 in their last 10 games to maintain a slim hold on second place in the Metro Division.
The good news is that Pittsburgh are five points north of Columbus and nine in front of Philly in the Atlantic. That spread might be enough for the Penguins to maintain their playoff spot, at least until Crosby returns. But, the Blue Jackets are red-hot, and if they stay at that pace, the Penguins will be in trouble.
Don't be surprised if the gap between the two teams narrows even further and it becomes a race.
