The Maple Leafs came into Sunday's contests almost last in the Eastern Conference. Toronto is 15-14-5 and their 35 points leave the Buds six points shy of the second Wild Card spot and third place in the Atlantic Division. A team that many predicted would win the division are on the outside looking in 40% into the regular season.
Nothing looks to be going right for Toronto. The offense, missing Mitch Marner, looks to still be searching for a direction. Defensively, the Maple Leafs have also been inconsistent while the goaltending has been marred by injuries. A path forward is unclear but the team looks to be in dire need of a top-six winger.
While this might sound crazy, there is a better than even chance Toronto is home when spring rolls around.
