The Islanders' loss to the Canadiens eliminated New York from playoff contention. Washington stayed alive with a 3-0 win over Pittsburgh while Columbus saw their chances take a major hit after a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Boston. Three teams are fighting for one spot - Philly sits in third in the Metro with 94 points in 80 games, followed by Washington at 93 points and Columbus at 92, though both of those teams have played 81 games.

Out West, the mess remains. Only Anaheim, amongst the teams fighting for a spot, was in action. The Ducks earned one point but failed to pick up the second that would've clinched a playoff spot, falling 4-3 in overtime to the Canucks. Anaheim has 90 points with 80 games played in third place in the Pacific Division. Los Angeles is in the second Wild Card with 87 points in 79 games. Training the Kings are the Predators (86 points, 80 games) as well as the Jets and Sharks, each with 82 points in 79 games and in need of a minor miracle.

San Jose is on the road to face Nashville with one team likely eliminated with a loss. Winnipeg is in a must win situation on the road in Vegas. Los Angeles faces Seattle and has a golden opportunity to move closer to securing a playoff spot and maybe a top-three spot in the division.

Which team in the East gets the third spot in the Metro? Who fills a similar spot in the Pacific with a second team earning a Wild Card spot?
