Jason Chen and Michael Amato discuss the value of draft picks in fantasy hockey and how you should use them in trades.

The Sleepers and Keepers fantasy hockey podcast hosts Jason Chen and Michael Amato answer your mailbag question:

Like in real life, the value of draft picks drops off precipitously after the first few rounds. Depending on the draft skills of a manager, the difference between picks after the first five rounds or so of a fantasy hockey draft is negligible.

While teams are reluctant to part with their first-round picks in real life, the late picks in the opening round could have just as much value as a second or third-round pick.

A lot of the value in draft picks in fantasy hockey will depend on the league settings and how well you know your rival GMs and your own blind spots.

If you're a good at finding sleeper players in the draft, those picks may be more valuable to you than others.

But if you make a mess of your fantasy hockey draft, your team can still be salvaged if you pay attention to the waiver wire and make aggressive moves to fix your errors.
