Bennett called young Kai's Halloween choice "the costume of the year"
Halloween is right around the corner, and one of the tiniest members of the Florida Panthers is getting in the spooky season spirit with an amazing costume.
Brandon Montour and his wife Ryian welcomed their son Kai into the world back in June, just as the Panthers were playing in the Stanley Cup Final.
Montour actually flew back to South Florida from Las Vegas between Games 1 and 2 of the Final to be there for Kai’s birth.
Fast forward to present day, where Montour has been working to get back into the Panthers lineup following offseason shoulder surgery, often seen around the rink, doing drills and skating with skills coach Max Ivanov and, sometimes, Patric Hornqvist as well.
Meanwhile, young Kai is closing in on his five-month birthday.
He’s also getting geared up for his first Halloween, and earlier this week his parents shared a photo of Kai in his costume.
For his first Halloween, Kai dressed up as Panthers center Sam Bennett, complete with his epic playoff handlebar mustache.
In photos posted to Riyan Montour’s Instagram, little Kai was decked out in his red Panthers sweater, his black knitted hockey skates and a long, twisting mustache.
It’s assumed that Kai is wearing a fake mustache, but his father’s playoff beard did arrive rather quickly during Florida’s run to the Stanley Cup Final earlier this year, so it’s something we’ll have to confirm with the elder Montour to be certain.
“I thought it was the costume of the year,” Bennett said with a smile. “He definitely rocked a good mustache. I was pretty excited, I started dying of laughter when I saw that costume. That was definitely the best one this year.”
