Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports - Date set for Roberto Luongo induction into Vancouver Canucks Ring of Honour

The Vancouver Canucks are honoring one of the franchise's former goalies who just happens to have a strong connection to the Florida Panthers.

Hall of Fame goaltender Roberto Luongo will be added to the Canucks Ring of Honour on Dec. 14, when Vancouver hosts the Panthers at Rogers Arena.

Luongo will become the eighth player in Canucks franchise history to be enshrined into their ring of honor.

“We are glad to officially have a date set for Roberto’s incredibly well-deserved induction to the Canucks Ring of Honour,” Canucks President of Hockey Ops Jim Rutherford said in a statement released by the team. “He is one of the greatest players to ever represent this team and his legacy continues in Vancouver to this day. As proud as we are to recognize Roberto with this achievement, it is as much of an honour for the organization and our fans to be able to celebrate him again in our building.”

Last November, Luongo was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame along with former Vancouver teammates Henrik and Daniel Sedin.

The veteran of 19 years in the NHL spent eight seasons with Vancouver, from 2006 to 2014.

During that time, Luongo was named to three All-Star Teams, he was a Vezina Trophy finalist and he led the Canucks to Game 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final.

Also, in 2010, Luongo was in goal for Team Canada when they won Olympic gold while playing not only in Canada, but at his then-home arena in Vancouver.

He left the franchise as its all-time leader in wins, with 252.

For fans who wish to attend the event, the first 10,000 who arrive at Rogers Arena will receive a limited edition Luongo bobblehead.
