Bure lit the lamp a whole heck of a lot during his brief but memorable stay in South Florida

When you think of Pavel Bure and his time with the Florida Panthers, it would be surprising if goals were the first thing that come to mind.

Bure’s tenure with the Panthers may not have been particularly long, but his time with the team was highlighted by lots and lots of goal scoring.

    By Bure.

    His fellow Panthers…not so much.

Bure carried a public perception of being a selfish player.

None of his coaches or teammates seemed to think so, but being a guy who scored so many goals and often played a high-risk, high-reward style, the unfair branding seemed to come with the territory.

The Hockey News dove into this topic toward the end of the 2000-2001 season, in the March 16, 2001 magazine, Vol. 54, Issue 27. One of the people author Jay Greenberg spoke to was Bure’s former coach in Florida, Terry Murray.

Here is a snippet of what Murray said about Bure in the story:

“There are always going to be players a little jealous of success and how things seem to come easy to a player like that. They get frustrated having to work so hard and not getting the same result.

“Pavel doesn’t organize team lunches. He is usually the first guy out of the dressing room and goes off to do his own thing, but there is nothing wrong with having your own life. He is not a bad teammate.”
