The Los Angeles Kings announced on Friday they're placing defensemen Vladislav Gavrikov on the injured reserve list.
Gavrikov was injured against the New York Islanders last Saturday after a knee-on-knee collision with Anders Lee.
This doesn't change much for Gavrikov's week-to-week status given earlier in the week.
On Wednesday, Jacob Moverare replaced Gavrikov in the lineup. After Tobias Bjornfot's conditioning assignment in Ontario, he's now an option as well.
Head coach Todd McLellan said they would re-evaluate Bjornfot ahead of Saturdays game.
We'll see who fills in for Gavrikov in the coming weeks, of course, it could be a combination of Moverare and Bjornfot.
The team also announced that goaltender David Rittich had been recalled on an emergency basis.
This came after Phoenix Copley left practice on Friday and needed help off the ice from training staff.
Rittich being called up on an emergency basis means he doesn't count against the cap while they evaluate Copley.
I'd expect Rittich to travel with the team to Seattle and act as the backup. He'll then have to go back down to Ontario, giving the Kings time to evaluate Copley.
One of the benefits of having a third goalie of Rittich's quality is this exact situation.
If Copley is hurt for an extended period of time, the Kings are in good hands with Rittich as the backup.
If Rittich spends a significant amount of time with the Kings. Expect Erik Portillo to see the majority of starts in Ontario.
The Kings aren't anywhere near an injury crisis at this point, but they are starting to pile up.
