© Jason Mowry-USA TODAY Sports - Kings Testing McLellan's Leash With Eighth Straight Loss

The Los Angeles Kings have extended their losing streak to eight games now after their 5-3 loss against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

This loss brought another wave of "Fire Todd" posts on social media and outrage from parts of the fan base.

While I don't think that's a real possibility right now, Todd won't be fired Sunday morning, the conversation becomes more real with every loss.

Heading into the third period down 5-1, looking like a team that had given up on the game, questions surrounding Todd McLellan's future were bound to be asked.

A strong third period cooled those thoughts down a little bit, but not entirely. McLellan is on the hot seat in the eyes of Kings fans, even if Rob Blake doesn't appear to agree.

Blake has stood by McLellan through this rebuilding process and has shown no indication of giving up on him yet.

McLellan, and his staff, were given a one-year extension at the beginning of this season and this felt like a prove-it year for them, especially in the playoffs.

A hot start has and back-to-back playoff appearances, one of which came unexpectedly, has given McLellan enough credit in the bank to ride out a losing streak.

However, there comes a point when he'll run out of credit and tough decisions must be made.

Again, I don't think eight games is that point, but what is the breaking point? At ten games surely the conversation becomes serious. Anything beyond ten games has to become dangerous territory for McLellan.

I've stayed relatively consistent on my opinions on McLellan over the last few seasons. He's a good coach but the criticisms surrounding his in-game management and overreliance on veteran players are fair.

Still, I've never jumped ship to the "Fire Todd" campaign and I'm not there yet.

Don't get me wrong, if this losing streak gets into the double digits the conversation has to start, but I wouldn't pull the trigger yet.

Mainly because I think the issues with this team come from roster-building rather than coaching.

Too many square pegs that have been forced into round holes above McLellan.

It's the same way I felt last season when the Kings were struggling off the back of league-worst goaltending.

Could Todd be doing better? Probably, but the problems don't come solely down to him and I'm not convinced a coaching change fixes said issues.

A team that was built around the idea of depth has gotten zero five-on-five goals from their bottom six in the last eight games.

That isn't a coaching problem, that's an execution problem on the player side.

I'm not going to put all of the Kings' problems on one player, but having an $8.5 million third-line center who isn't producing well also isn't a coaching problem.

The eight-game slide isn't as bad when you factor in half of the losses coming in overtime or the shootout.

It's still not good, but at least the Kings haven't gone pointless in their last eight.

The Kings haven't come to the end of McLellan's leash yet, but this losing streak is putting pressure on it.

Eventually, it will snap, but we're still a little ways away from that point.
