While the Montreal Canadiens didn’t get very far in the NHL playoffs, their farm team, the Laval Rocket, had a fascinating journey in the AHL, and head coach Pascal Vincent played a significant role in the accomplishment.
Earlier this week, Vincent was honoured by the city of Laval. The town on the north shore of Montreal is celebrating its 60th anniversary, and as part of the celebration, the town has created the Order of the City of Laval and named the first recipients. The distinction aims to recognize the exceptional engagement and contribution of Laval citizens.

Seven medals were awarded in various fields: Jocelyn Gibouleau in business and agriculture, Luc De Larocheliere in culture, Stephanie Leblanc in social development, Yves-Michel Volcy in education, Dr Farid Amer Ouali and Dre Tasnim Alami-Larouss in health and social services, and finally, Vincent in the sporting field.
The Rocket’s coach, born in Laval, returned to his hometown team in July 2024 after coaching in Winnipeg and Columbus. He led the team to an exceptional season, marked by 48 wins and the regular-season championship.
Vincent was recognized for his implication, passion, and rigor, which have been instrumental in making Laval a choice destination in professional sports for both athletes and fans. The city notes that the team's successes have written the history of the town and made it shine on both the national and international scenes.
It’s not the only award Vincent received following his first season at the helm of the Rocket; he also received the Louis A.R. Pieri Trophy as the top bench boss in the AHL. With so many teams changing their coach this offseason, there were fears that Vincent might be tempted to take an NHL job elsewhere. Still, the pilot explained it would take a fantastic offer for him to leave the Montreal Canadiens’ organization. Good news for the Habs, as a well-fun farm team is essential to a successful rebuild. Building through the draft means developing young players and helping them become great NHLers.
