Canadiens: Alex Newhook Golf Classic Raises $113,000 for Charity

The inaugural edition of the Alex Newhook & Friends Golf Classic transpired on Tuesday, raising $113,000 for three worthy causes.

Newhook was joined by other professional athletes, including Canadiens’ teammates Jayden Struble, Josh Anderson and Justin Barron, PWHL Toronto forward Maggie Connors, New Jersey Devils center Dawson Mercer, and retired NHL goaltender Curtis Joseph.

The event occurred at the Bally Haly Country Club in St John’s, Newfoundland. The money was raised for The Real Program, which helps children and youth facing financial barriers participate in recreational activities, providing cost coverage of registration fees and travel; Cancer Care Foundation, which raises funds for cancer care throughout Newfoundland and Labrador; and the Iris Kirby House, is a shelter that is used as a haven for women and children experiencing intimate partner violence.

The event had numerous sponsors including Mary Brown’s Chicken and India Beer. Sign-up spots to participate in the event sold out on July 16.

Newhook wasn’t the only hockey player affiliated with the Canadiens to host a golfing charity event. Retired Habs enforcer Chris Nilan hosted the Chris Nilan Golf Classic back in July, which raised $140,000 for the Liam Foundation.
