Montreal Canadiens third-round draft pick Logan Sawyer has decided not to participate in another year of junior hockey and go to the NCAA a year in advance. The winger will join the Providence College Friars in the 2024-25 season.
Mark Divver originally reported the news on X yesterday. Sawyer was seen around the Providence campus as well as skating with his new teammates.
Sawyer tallied 19 points in 20 games last season with the Brooks Bandits of the BCHL. He is one of two (potentially three) Habs prospects making their NCAA debut this year.
Michael Hage, the Canadiens' 21st-overall selection in the 2024 draft, will attend the University of Michigan and take part on the Wolverines roster. Swedish prospect Alexander Zetterberg went undrafted in this year’s showcase but received an invite and attended the Canadiens' development camp. He plans on joining the Boston University Terriers this upcoming campaign.
Sawyer’s new team finished last year with an 18-13-4 record, finishing fourth in the Hockey East Association.
