Cole Caufield Could Get 40 Goals This Season

Today, Cole Caufield is on pace to score 39 goals. He currently has 28 goals in 59 games. That’s outstanding. I knew he was going to be a force in the NHL. This is what I said about him in 2019. This is what I said about it post-draft.

“The fact that he fell to 15th with all the evidence that he can play this game and fans of the teams who passed on them will talk about this for years to come. There was enough evidence just from the U18s alone when he scored 14 goals in seven games that you can’t worry about his size when drafting him. He didn’t drop to DeBrincat proportions, but he fell enough that he gave the Canadiens exactly what they needed.”

Caufield has averaged .47 goals per game this season. That’s on pace with some of the top scorers in the game. At 24, we are seeing growth in his game and that’s fun to witness. For his career, Caufield is averaging .41 goals per game. Again, that’s very good and I think he might improve upon that slightly in his peak seasons.

The last player to score 40 goals for the Montreal Canadiens was Vincent Damphousse. He did it in 1993-94. 10 of those were game-winners. It was a heck of a season. Caufield has five. A great season is a great season and some of these statistics line up.

Let’s see how this season ends for Caufield. So far, he’s been terrific and it’s possible he could reach this goal, pun intended.
