Kent Hughes wanted to improve his top-six this Summer and on paper, he just did by acquiring Patrik Laine from the Columbus Blue Jackets.

According to the rumours, Kent Hughes tried to acquire Rutger McGroarty at the draft and it didn't come to be, he tried to sign Jonathan Marchessault in free agency and it didn't come to be, but today, he sealed a big deal.
As reported by numerous outlets, Columbus Blue Jackets forward Patrik Laine had requested a trade and GM Don Waddell made it clear that he would do his best to find a landing spot for him. However, he wanted to find a deal that made sense for his team and apparently he did with Montreal.
In return for the second-overall pick at the 2016 draft and a second round pick in 2026, the Jackets receive left-shot defenseman Jordan Harris (a victim of the overcrowding on the Canadiens blueline). Columbus does not retain any salary in the deal, which might explain why he came for so cheap (well, with a whole plethora of reasons I'll discuss in an article tomorrow).
Canadiens GM Kent Hughes will speak to the media at 5:00 PM and we'll have more information after the availability.
