METAL!, the unofficial mascot for the Montreal Canadiens, will arm wrestle TNA Knockouts World Champion Jordynne Grace

It’s not every day that a mascot provokes a world-class athlete into competition, yet one furry character has found a way.

The unofficial mascot of the Montreal Canadiens, METAL!, Will take on TNA Knockouts World Champion Jordynne Grace in an arm wrestling competition this Friday.

The match-up was prompted thanks to a series of posts METAL! sent out on X. The posts detailed how the mascot felt about the state of wrestling today. Grace took exception to one post in particular wherein the big blue character stated that he was too metal for today’s wrestlers. The world champion wrestler then challenged him to an arm wrestling competition at the Verdun Auditorium (now called Centre 21.02 and one of the venues used by PWHL Montreal in its inaugural season).

This isn’t the first instance of METAL! rubbing a respected contender the wrong way. Back in December 2023, he crossed paths with Daddy Magic. While the mascot seemed content with meeting the wrestler, Daddy Magic took exception to not meeting the beloved Youppi!. This prompted Magic to unleash fury.

Youppi! has a history of athlete annoyance, himself. Some fans may be old enough to remember when former Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda had the then Montreal Expos hype character ejected from a game for sleeping on top of the away team’s dugout.

It will be interesting to see how the competition plays out on Friday. Safe money is on the powerlifter/bodybuilder/world champion wrestler. The match starts at 12:30 p.m.
