    Montreal Should Shop David Savard

    David Savard could be traded.

The panel discusses what the Montreal Canadiens could get in a David Savard trade.

The Montreal Canadiens recent skid has all but killed their playoff chances. They have an 8% chance of getting the last wild card according to most websites. Even if you go with the “nothing is impossible” theory, the team should shop David Savard and then make an informed decision.

The right-handed shot has won a Stanley Cup and he has 57 games of playoff experience. As I always say, if he wants to come back and play for the Canadiens, he can sign with them in the offseason but getting assets for him before his contract is up is what you should do as an organization.

Savard can still play 15-22 minutes a game and if the Canadiens are smart, they try and include him in a hockey trade. If you put him in a deal, with a C prospect, they might be able to get a conditional second or third round pick (make that for 2026 since they have 1 adding another is good for that draft) and a B prospect. Preferably, someone close to playing in the NHL.

There is a chance they could get a player with a bit of term and a salary the other team wants to get off their books. That worked for Calgary recently and it could work for Montreal and this way they have added to the roster and the cap is going up so there’s no issue there.

The Canadiens are making progress but they are in rebuilding mode for the foreseeable future.
