The Laval Rocket signed forward Riley McKay to a one-year, one-way AHL contract for the 2023-24 season.
On Tuesday, the Laval Rocket announced that they had agreed to terms with forward Riley McKay, inking him to a one-year, one-way AHL contract. The 6'0", 203 pound left winger suited up for 23 games in a Laval sweater last season, tallying two goals and five assists for seven points and accruing 118 penalty minutes.
The 24-year-old split time between Laval and the Trois-Rivieres Lions (ECHL), playing 25 games in which he scored eight goals and added two assists and racked up an additional 49 penalty minutes.
McKay was acquired by the Rocket in October 2022 from the Rockford IceHogs in exchange for future considerations. The move came very quickly after the Montreal Canadiens had traded forward Cam Hillis to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Nicolas Beaudin.
As noted above, discipline could be an area that McKay needs to improve on, particularly given that he was named the WHL's most penalized player in both the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons while playing with the Spokane Chiefs and the Saskatoon Blades.
