Trois-Rivieres Lions, the ECHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, added considerable experience to their bench by hiring Ron Choules as assistant coach.
The Trois-Rivieres Lions announced this week the hiring of Ron Choules as assistant coach. Choules joins the organization after spending the last two seasons as head coach of the Lac St. Louis Lions from the Quebec midget AAA level. It will be his first experience as a coach at the professional level. He will be taking on the assistant role following Pascal Rheaume's recent promotion to head coach and general manager of the Lions.

The 60-year old also spent 13 seasons behind the bench in the QMJHL in various roles for the Victoriaville Tigres, Acadie-Bathrust Titan, Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, Gatineau Olympiques, and Shawinigan Cataractes between 2005 and 2021.
In his playing days, Choules was a left winger that was drafted in the 12th round, 228th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. His professional career last 31 games in the AHL and the IHL.
On Wednesday, the ECHL's Board of Governors approved the sale of the Iowa Heartlanders from Deacon Sports and Entertainment (DSE) to Heartlanders Hockey, LLC.
DSE also owns the Lions and the Newfoundland Growlers, the Toronto Maple Leafs ECHL affiliate. It has been reported that the ownership group has also been negotiating the sale of the Lions to a local group.
In May, the city of Trois-Rivieres sent the organization a formal notice to settle a debt of nearly $600,000. The amount represents the rent for the Colisee Videotron for the season and the city’s percentage of ticket sales.
With Choules completing the Lions' hockey operations department, the club is still in the process of recruiting a new president. The position has been vacant since the end of the season when Mark Weightman left the team to take on the president role of the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League.
