    Trois-Rivieres Lions Open their 2023-24 Training Camp

    Several familiar names appeared on the player list as the Trois-Rivieres Lions began their training camp on Tuesday ahead of 2023-24 season.

    The Trois-Rivieres Lions, Montreal Canadiens ECHL affiliate, opened training camp on Tuesday in preparation for the 2023-24 season. The first day of camp was reserved for medical and physical evaluations. 

    Head coach and general manager Ron Choules with his assistants Alex Cousineau and Mathieu Brodeur will have 24 forwards, 12 defencemen and four goalies to start the day on Wednesday. 

    Notable Players

    • Ty Smilanic: The forward was selected in the third round of 2020 NHL draft by the Florida Panthers and acquired by the Canadiens in a trade that sent Ben Chiarot to the Panthers. The 21-year-old decided to turn pro after three seasons in the NCAA. He signed with the Lions on Monday after being released from the Canadiens and Rocket training camps.
    • John Parker-Jones: The 23-year-old was cut from Rocket's training camp on Tuesday. He dressed for one preseason game with the Canadiens. Last season, the 6-foot-7 inch forward split the year between the AHL and ECHL. 
    • Miguel Tourigny: The 21-year-old defenseman was cut from Rocket's training camp on Tuesday. He was drafted in the seventh round by the Canadiens in 2022 and signed an AHL contract with the Rocket after spending one season in Slovakia. 
    • Joe Vrbetic: The goalie was drafted in the seventh round by the Canadiens in 2021. He played in 28 games for the Lions last season. He was invited to training camp after being released from the Canadiens and Rocket training camps.

    Season Opener

    The Lions will play an intrasquad game on Friday October 13th at Colisee Videotron. The match will start at 7:00pm and it will be free for fans to attend. 

    Trois-Rivieres will need to finalize their 21 player roster by October 18th deadline. 

    The Canadiens ECHL affiliate have no preseason games on the schedule and kick off the 2023-24 season on October 20th by hosting the Maine Mariners.
