Speaking to the media before Saturday's game, Montreal Canadiens' coach Martin St-Louis was asked his thoughts about captain Nick Suzuki speaking to GM Kent Hughes and asking him not to split the team up. He explained that he didn't know exactly what was said, but he added that when you go and speak to the GM like that, you need to back it up, just like Suzuki did.

Questioned about whether he had done that kind of thing when he was himself a player, he replied that he didn't do the same things at 22 than at 30 years old, but he was not afraid to "tell his truth" to his GM.
The bench boss believes it's part of growing as a captain and it's hard to disagree with him. Taking it upon yourself to go and speak to the GM is proof of real leadership and of trust not only in your teammates, but in yourself as well, since as St-Louis mentions, you need to back it up. It's one thing to talk the talk, but it's important to walk the walk as well.
With 13 points in just six games, Suzuki has certainly done that and ultimately, he took the team on his back and forced Hughes to give this team a chance to make it together.
