Philippe Maillet returned to the lineup after being sidelined on Wednesday due to sickness. Riley McKay sat out to make room for the veteran. Fans arriving late to their seats missed the first goal as Justin Barron intercepted a pass and began a tic-tac-toe play with Brandon Gignac that Lias Andersson completed during the first minute. It took less than two minutes for Laval to retake the lead when Gignac fed the puck to Barron in the slot and the defenceman lodged a shot top corner on the glove side. Later in the frame, Mattias Norlinder drove to the net for a shot that was stopped by Dustin Tokarski and Mitchell Stephens was in position to bury the rebound and give the home team a two-goal lead through 20 minutes. The officials were kept busy in the second period breaking up post whistle scrums and calling infractions on the division rivals. Joshua Roy added to his team's lead on their fourth power play of the contest with a one-timer on a one-timer pass by Maillet that got behind the former Canadiens netminder. On the first shift of the third period, William Trudeau located Maillet behind Rochester's defence and the forward skated to the net for the goal. Later in the period, Joseph Cecconi's shot missed the net and landed right on the stick of Jeremy Davies that just had to tap it in to cut the lead to three goals. With under three minutes remaining, Andersson added a nail to the coffin with an empty net goal. After being outworked and outplayed on Wednesday, Jean-Francois Houde's squad showed up for a 60-minute performance against one of the teams they were trailing in the North Division.
