Nashville picked up the pace and put pressure on the Oilers for the remainder of the first to keep Edmonton off the board but quickly unraveled in the second period, putting just four shots on goal and allowing Edmonton to dictate the pace of play. A failed dump-in by Jonathan Marchessault at 4-on-4 quickly turned into a 2-on-1 with McDavid and Leon Draisaitl versus Jeremy Lauzon, and Draisaitl passed to McDavid for the easy score. Nurse scored his first goal of the season less than three minutes later on a tight-angle shot from Wedgewood's right, and Nashville fell behind, 2-1.
