
NHL Player Safety has announced that New Jersey Devils defenseman Johnathan Kovacevic has been fined $1,996.53 for cross-checking Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk. This is the maximum allowable fine under the CBA.
This incident occurred less than a minute into the first period of the Devils' 2-1 shootout loss to the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night (Jan. 14). Kovacevic was given a two-minute minor penalty for cross-checking on the play.

Kovacevic, 27, has appeared in 46 games this season with the Devils, where he has one goal, 11 assists, and a team-best plus-15 rating.
