The 2022-23 NHL season officially ended on June 14th, when the Vegas Golden Knights hoisted Stanley Cup at T-Mobile Arena.
But hockey is back under the spotlight this upcoming week as we head to Nashville for the 2023 NHL Awards and the 2023 NHL Draft.
The award show begins Monday at 8 PM ET on TNT in the United States and Sportsnet. New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin is a finalist for the Vezina Trophy, while Islanders captain Anders Lee is up for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy.
The NHL Draft is a two-day event, with the first round on Wednesday, June 28th, at 8 PM ET.
The Islanders do not have a first-round pick for the fourth straight season, as their 2023 first-round selection was sent to the Vancouver Canucks in a package that brought Bo Horvat to Long Island.
Rounds 2-7 will begin at 11 AM ET on Thursday, June 29th. The Islanders do not own their third-round selection, as that was dealt to the Arizona Coyotes in the summer of 2021 when New York rid themselves of the Andrew Ladd deal.
The Islanders picks are as followed:
No. 49 (2nd Rd)
No. 113 (4th Rd)
No. 145 (5th Rd)
No. 177 (6th Rd)
No. 209 (7th Rd)
If the Islanders are going to move Josh Bailey, which seems likely if they can find a suitor, that could happen during either day of the draft.
Although unlikely, the Islanders could also part with other pieces during this time, given their lack of cap space ($5.3 million) with four key unrestricted free agents to potentially retain.
