It took two overtimes to decide Game Four at UBS Arena Saturday.
The New York Islanders needed extra time, but they managed to extend their series with Carolina to five games, as they defeated the Hurricanes 3-2 in double OT at UBS Arena.
The Isles entered the game looking to extend tis first-round series to a fifth game back in Carolina on Tuesday evening.
Semyon Varlamov faced 44 shots, while, Fredrick Andersen saw 35 pucks.
Ruslan Iskhakov made his Islanders playoff debut filling in for Matt Martin -- but saw little ice throughout the contest.

The Islanders came out flying to start the game with sustained offensive zone time and many shot attempts.
Things quickly shifted for the Islanders, as an Anders Lee tripping penalty altered the momentum and put the Islanders on the kill.
At the eight-minute mark first, Seth Jarvis found a loose puck and ripped it past Varlamov to put the Hurricanes up 1-0:
Brent Burns' shot from the point got the play started before Jake Guentzel's rebound attempt bounced around before Jarvis buried it.

After 20 minutes, the Hurricanes led 1-0. They also held the shot advantage; 8-6.
In the second, Mathew Barzal scored his first goal of the series, to tie the game at one apiece at 10:10 of the second. With strong puck protection, Barzal skated to the high slot, creating space -- before his wrist shot banked off the glove-side post and past Andersen:
Adam Pelech and Bo Horvat were awarded assisted on the goal.
The Islanders then killed off a crucial penalty shortly after Barzal tied the game.
Close to the the end of the second, Sebastian Aho tripped Alex Romanov, and New York was set to start the third period on a power play.
Carolina recorded 12 shots to the Islanders eight in the second period. The Islanders had won 24-of-28 face-offs through 40 minutes.
1:38 into the third period the Islanders capitalized on the power play. J.G. Pageau slammed home a rebound on a Noah Dobson shot originating from a face-off win:
Anders Lee tallied the secondary assist.
The Hurricanes showed no quite, looking to end the series, rallying to tie the game at two with 5:52 remaining in regulation. It was another power play goal allowed that burned the Islanders.
Stefan Noesen scored the PPG, artfully tipping the puck in, as he was parked in front the net:
Martin Necas started the play, who sent the puck to Teuvo Teravainen, who directed the puck towards Noesen.
The game -- and series would not be settled in regulation; needing overtime to settle Game Four.
In OT, each team had opportunities, but the game would reach the buzzer without a winner and in need of more overtime.
But before the two teams cleared the ice, Dmitry Orlov elbowed Anders Lee to the face -- allowing for a small fracas to break out before heading to the dressing room.
Jake Guentzel and Adam Pelech were both given rouging penalties to start the second OT.
In the second extra frame, the Isles came through when Barzal deflected a Robert Bortuzzo shot past Andersen to give the Islanders a 3-2 win.
“You have no idea how proud I am of this group,” Islanders coach Patrick Roy said. “They came out and played hard. Even when (the Hurricanes) took the lead, we stayed calm and we stayed focused. Our mindset was really good, and I think the guys were determined to find a way to fight to win this hockey game.”
Game Five will be played on Tuesday in Carolina at 7:30 PM.
