NEW YORK, NY -- The New York Islanders put forth their best showing of the preseason as they defeated the New York Rangers 5-2 at UBS Arena on Saturday night.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Brock Nelson, Bo Horvat, and Cal Clutterbuck each had a goal for the Islanders. 

Brennan Othmann had the lone goal for the Rangers. 

Anders Lee. from the half wall, found Pageau in the low slot at 7:07 of the first period to give the Islanders a 1-0 lead.

Hudson Fasching, with a between-the-legs pass, dropped the puck to Brock Nelson before he beat goalie Jonathan Quick five-hole at 9:35 of the first to give the Islanders a 2-0 lead. 

Horvat scored on the wraparound at 17:11 of the first period to extend the Islanders' lead to 3-0. 

Clutterbuck scored glove side at 10:44 of the second from the low slot to give the Islanders a 4-0 lead. 

Othmann beat Islanders goalie Semyon Varlamov under the pad at 5:07 of the third period to cut the Ranges deficit to 4-1. 

Barclay Goodrow scored from the slow slot with 5:04 to make it a 4-2 game. 

Wille Cuylle scored with 50 seconds to play in the third to put the Rangers within a goal, 4-3. 

Lee scored on the empty net to make it 5-3.

Varlamov made 22 saves.  Quick made 17 saves. Dylan Garand made seven saves in relief. 

Notes: Forward Kyle Palmieri (day-to-day) continues to skate on his own, but there is no timetable for his return.
