Romanov has missed the last four games for the Islanders and seven of their last eight with an upper-body injury.
New York Islanders defenseman Alexander Romanov hit the ice with his teammates on Monday in Edmonton for the first time since sustaining an upper-body injury against the Buffalo Sabres on Nov. 1.
Romanov has missed the Islanders' last four games and seven of the last eight but has been progressing. He skated on his own Saturday morning ahead of the Islanders' 4-3 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils.
While we don't know when Romanov will be cleared to return during this five-game road trip, the fact that he made the trip is positive.
With Romanov out of the lineup these last four games, the Islanders have gone 2-1-1, with rookie Isaiah George playing big minutes and helping to stabilize the banged-up blue line.
With Adam Pelech (IR, 4-6 weeks) and Mike Reilly (out indefinitely) still on the mend, George will remain in the lineup when Romanov is ready to return.
The Islanders battle the Oilers on Tuesday night at 9 PM ET.
