Horvat gets the monkey off his back.
ELMONT, NY -- New York Islanders Bo Horvat needed a goal in the worst way.
Entering Saturday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes, the 29-year-old had failed to score in 13 straight games and had just two red lights in 17 games since Mathew Barzal fell victim to a long-term upper-body injury.
After missing a few grade-A chances early in the game, Horvat finally found the back of the net, burying a one-time feed to give the Islanders a 4-2 lead with 1:05 to go in the second period.
He celebrated accordingly:
Horvat's goal gave him a two-point night with a period to go.
The Islanders went on to beat the Hurricanes 4-3. Here's the locker room's reaction to Horvat putting an end to the goal drought:
Horvat: "It wasn't fun. It was probably the longest one since my second year [in the NHL] that I had that kind of a streak," Horvat said. "It was one of those things where you just had to laugh about it. I would have been more worried if I wasn't getting the chances and stuff. So to finally see it go in and get the win definitely felt great."
Lee: "We were all so pumped. Great little moment. Great pass by Pager. Bo puts it in. Hockey is fun again."
Tsyplakov: "He wanted to score. Told me before game. He happy."
Pageau: "I've been feeding him for so long now. The one thing is that he had chances. He is doing a lot of things right. You start to worry when you don't have those chances. And he kept digging and digging. And, of course, it can get in the back of your mind. So, I'm sure it felt good to remove that pressure he puts on himself off his shoulder, and it's probably really good for his confidence.
Roy: "I understand how he felt, but I mean, at the same time, I was hoping that he would just concentrate on what he can control, and it's the way he plays. Eventually, good things happen. I mean, it was a really nice pass by Pageau on this one, and he had a really good chance in the first period when he missed that one. I said, 'Oh no', but I mean, at the same time, it is what it is, and I hope that that's gonna make him feel good, at least for tonight, and go back tomorrow and be ready for a strong game."
