The Islanders hold a rather valuable asset.
If made available, New York Islanders pending unrestricted free agent forward Brock Nelson will be one of the most sought-after players at the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline.
The 33-year-old, who has been a scoring machine over the last few seasons, with 37, 36, and 34 goals, respectively, is in the final season of a six-year deal worth $6 million annually.
Nelson's stat line this season may not stand out, with just 10 goals in 40 games (11 assists) while currently on a 17-game goal drought.
But based on his recent history and just how good he can be when he's on, Nelson could be a vital asset to a team hoping to win the Stanley Cup.
Nelosn is worth, at the very least, a first-round pick. Given that many teams will try to snag him away from the Islanders, that competition will likely allow the Islanders to obtain more for him.
The expected return is a combination of a first-round pick and another pick or prospect unless he's part of a package for another player.
If not dealt with before the NHL's 4 Nation's Face-Off, which begins on Feb. 12, the Team USA centerman will be able to showcase his skillsets amongst the league's best with more eyes in front of him than a regular Islanders game.
Nelson does have a 16-team no-trade clause.
Forward Kyle Palmieri, who is in the final season of a four-year deal worth $5 million annually, could also be on the move with a first-round pick a likely possible return.
Palmieri has 26 points (10 goals, 16 assists) in 40 games.
Islanders captain Anders Lee (18 goals, 14 assists) and Jean-Gabriel Pageau (nine goals, 11 assists), who have two seasons remaining on their deals at $7 million annually and $5 million annually, respectively, could also be on the move.
Lee has a 15-team no-trade clause, while Pageau's list has 16 teams.
The 2025 NHL Trade Deadline is March 7 at 3 PM ET.
