EAST MEADOW, NY -- New York Islanders fans have been a bit restless since a report stated that star netminder Ilya Sorokin was "battling" something.
The report didn't provide much information but created much speculation.
We were certainly uncomfortable reporting something without all the information, especially knowing that the team would have an answer for us sooner rather than later.
On Thursday, Sorokin did not skate during an informal veterans group session, which was happening at the same time as day one of rookie camp.
The team confirmed that Sorokin did not skate and that his absence was not off-ice related, as some fans speculated.
We will have an additional Sorokin update for you on Friday morning.
Sorokin, who went 25-19-12 with a 3.01 GAA and a .908 SV% in 56 games, is entering the first year of an eight-year deal, which carries an average annual value of $8.25 million.
