The New York Islanders added a few members to their team this summer, and here at The Hockey News, we've added someone as well.

Russell Macias is joining the team to help bolster our coverage of this new era of Islanders hockey. He will also be on the ground in Massachusetts, covering the Boston Bruins

I will not be going anywhere, but, as all you athletes and sports fans know, there's nothing like being part of a team.

Last season, Russ's first on the beat, I, alongside my site manager David Kolb, saw how hard he worked to establish himself, while showcasing his knowledge of the game and the team, and learning and growing as a reporter.

As I expand my coverage with The Elmonters, along with the work I do at NHL.com, I wanted to make sure that I had someone whom I trusted to help me provide around-the-clock coverage of your favorite team.

    Russ is that guy.

    A Message From Russ:

Hey everyone. To those of you who know me already, nice to see you on this side of the yard. For those that don’t, here’s a bit about me.

I grew up right in Levittown, going to Nassau Coliseum just like all of you. There’s something special about this place I’ve called home for most of my life.

In 2019, I left Long Island for Pittsburgh to attend Duquesne University. Coming back five years later to cover the Islanders, that passion only grew.
You fans are so dedicated to this team. There’s something unquestionably unique about the Islanders and this fanbase. Thank you all for an amazing year full-time on the beat.

I’m so glad that even though I’m moving up to Boston, I still get to cover your team.

This year will be different. Obviously, a lot of my tweets and stories will be dedicated to the Boston Bruins. However, being in Boston, it’s like hockey heaven up there.

Within a two hour drive, there’s five AHL teams, over a dozen NCAA hockey teams, and the Bruins.

The opportunity to cover not only the Bruins in person, but the upcoming season, like Islanders prospects Cole Eiserman and Kamil Bednarik -- we can't forget Long Island native James Hagens -- is a tremendous bonus.

Later on today, I’ll be writing my first piece about why this year is going to be an exciting one for Bridgeport as the team turns the page on the previous era. That’s a team that, if all goes right, could triple their win total from the previous season.

Needless to say, there’s so much to look forward to, and I look forward to continuing to share that journey with you all."
