EAST MEADOW, NY -- The New York Islanders got a tad bit healthier following the Christmas break.
Defenseman Scott Mayfield, who has missed the last six games with an upper-body injury, rejoined his teammates for the first time since injuring his finger in the third period of their 4-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Dec. 11.
Mayfield landed on injured reserve on Dec. 15, retroactive to the 11th.
The 31-year-old blue-liner has been battling injuries the entire season, playing in just 20 of the Islander's 33 games.
Mayfield missed seven games with a lower-body injury after blocking a Rasmus Dahlin slapshot in their season-opening 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres before his latest injury.
Mayfield has yet to be activated off injured reserve, and Grant Hutton, who was returned to Bridgeport during the holiday freeze, is back up.
He would need to be sent down for Mayfield to be activated.
