Seattle Waives Sprong; A Fit To Aid Islanders Injury Bug

Daniel Sprong is on an expiring contract.

On Tuesday, the Seattle Kraken placed forward Daniel Sprong on waivers.

The 27-year-old only has two goals and three assists for five points in 19 games this season.

The team could use some NHL forward depth with the New York Islanders down two forwards, with Simon Holmstrom and Hudson Fasching on the shelf.

Their fourth line currently consists of Matt Martin, Kyle MacLean, and Pierre Engvall.

There have been players waived this season that the Islander could have used.

We saw the Pittsburgh Penguins waive Valtteri Puustinen, who was a speedy forward, but there was no dice. On Sunday, the Los Angeles Kings waived Arthur Kaliyev, a 23-year-old winger who struggled like Oliver Wahlstrom to live up to expectations.

The Rangers snagged him off waivers, who held the spot behind the Islanders in the waiver order.

Sprong has 363 games of NHL experience, and unlike Puustinen and Kaliyev, Sprong is a true bottom-six forward who provides speed and a strong shot.

The Netherland's native carries a cap hit of $975,000.

The Islanders currently have $506,667 in available space and a full 23-man roster. However, they could place Fasching on long-term injured reserve, creating a roster spot and freeing up an additional $775,000 to make this waiver claim work.
