Yes, Nelson had given the Islandes a 2-0 lead, the first multi-goal lead the Islanders have had since their 5-2 beatdown of the Vancouver Canucks, which became their only win on what was a disappointing five-game road trip. But on Hockey Fights Cancer Night, Nelson came through for Henry Schafer, an eight-year-old die-hard fan who had battled Leukemia for over three years. Henry had told MSGSN host Shannon Hogan that his favorite player was No. 29 and that he wanted to see Nelson score a goal. So, when Hogan interviewed Nelson during the first intermission, which they played on the UBS Arena jumbotron, she let Nelson know. Nelson responded to the wish by saying he was feeling really good about his game that night and that he'd do his best. So, when Nelson scored that goal, everyone in the arena and at home knew just how special that moment was for Henry and for Nelson. "You hear those stories a lot. It's just special," Nelson said following the game. "It's a special night night with every team in the league honoring those who are battling, who are fighting. "So for [Henry] to be here, to have that wish, it's special for sure, and I was happy to get it for him."
