Islanders Fall 5-2 To Flames Over the years, notable NHL captains have inspired their teams to victory, even Stanley Cups. A few names come to mind: Denis Potvin, Mark Messier, and -- why not? -- Sidney Crosby. Now we've come to a turning point in the New York Islanders [https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/new-york-islanders/latest-news/patrick-roy-oliver-wahlstrom-new-york-islanders] season when Anders Lee must stand up and make that "C" look more meaningful than ever. Since the first time I met Anders the rookie, he impressed me as an admirable person and a commendable warrior for the Orange and Blue. When he was awarded the "C," I lauded the decision and still do; except for one thing. Lee's club is at a crossroads. It no longer can afford waltz-time sequences, such as cost them a winnable game against Calgary that concluded without our guys getting even a point at home. Frankly, I have no idea what genuine impact Anders has with his teammates, but it's now time for him to become a genuine "Force" with his teammates; an inspiration, if you will; the guy who won't allow his hockey club to take UBS ice today and fall behind three-zip before you could say, "Sorry, Wrong Number." A lot -- of course -- will depend on the rest of the gang; not to mention the new coach. But I want my captain to make good on his "C" as never before because there's still time for a playoff berth to be won. Anders, Old Pal, help make it happen. The Maven's gut feeling is that YOU will!
