A John Marino point shot through a screen cut the Devils' deficit to 2-1 at 10:02 of the first. Jesper Bratt tied the game at two on the power play at 2:14 of the second period. Bratt's second of the game gave the Devils a 3-2 lead at 3:54 of the second, coming on an odd-man rush. Pierre Engvall tied the game at two after one-timing a loose puck five-hole at 6:03 of the second. Marino scored his second at 10:40 of the second to give the Devils a 4-3 lead. Jack Hughes, on the power play, extended the Devils lead to 5-3 at 12:21 of the second via a one-timer. Eleven seconds into the third, Bo Horvat found Barzal at the back post to cut the Islanders' deficit to 5-4. Bratt scored his third of the game at 4:18 of the third to give the Devils a 6-4 lead. Anders Lee deflected a Sebastian Aho point shot to make it 5-4 at 16:25 of the third. Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin made 13 saves. Ken Appleby made four saves.
