While Flyers netminder Sam Ersson was strong, stopping all 12 that came his way, Hogberg stole the show, stopping all 15 shots he saw, including a few one-timers and in-tight deflections, while also controlling his rebounds. Maxim Tsyplakov, who was skating in his second game, doesn't seemed fazed by anything, trusting his skills and IQ to slow the game down and make simple, but correct plays. Hogberg continued to steal the show in the second period, stoning Flyers' one-time chances left and right. The Flyers had a strong chance to take the lead in the second half of the middle frame, as it looked like Tippett had a tap-in at the back post but prospect Calle Odelius intercepted the pass. The Islanders had chances of their own, but Ersson, whose rebound control was a bit questionable, used the scramble method to keep the pucks out. At 4:34 of the third period, the Flyers took a 1-0 lead after Cam York's shot missed the net but bounced right off the end boards and onto the stick of veteran Erik Johnson. Rookie phenom Matvei Mitchkov earned the secondary assist: Mitchkov added an empty-net goal with 1:03 to play to make it a 2-0 game. The Islanders went 0-for-2 on the power play and despite having chances, they failed to bury.
