It’s safe to say that the Carolina Hurricanes are happy to have K’Andre Miller.

The Hurricanes signed Miller to an eight-year, $60 million contract as part of a sign-and-trade with the New York Rangers.

It’s a hefty contract to give to a 25-year-old defenseman who hasn’t quite tapped into his full potential yet, but Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour believes he’ll thrive in Carolina and he’s the exact kind of player the team has been looking for.

“Everybody's looking for big defensemen who have that mobility, and he certainly has the potential, as we've seen.  [He'll] maybe even keep getting better,” Brind'Amour said. “I think it's a really good move for us. We needed a guy like that…”

On the other side of the aisle, Miller is looking forward to playing for Brind'Amour and beginning to build a strong rapport with his new coach.

“I’ve heard nothing but great things about Rod,” Miller said. “I heard he’s one of the best coaches in the league, and honestly, I can’t wait to shake his hand, get to know him, meeting him, and talk hockey.”

Maybe a coach of Brind'Amour’s caliber and strong culture that the Hurricanes have is all Miller needs to blossom into the kind of defenseman that many Rangers fans thought he would become in New York.
