The sale of the Ottawa Senators appears to have hit a slight delay.

September 14th was a date that had been circled as a potential finish line for the official, "fairly complicated" ownership transfer of Ottawa's NHL franchise. But it looks the process will roll well past that date without an announcement.

There has been an announcement about breakfast, though.

Incoming owner Michael Andlauer was scheduled to be a guest on Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe's breakfast series on September 14th. But since he's opted not to do any interviews until the sale is officially complete, he's now been scratched from the lineup that day with GM Pierre Dorion getting the start instead.

Obviously, it's not a huge deal that Andlauer had to skip breakfast. The Mayor literally hosts these breakfasts every single month. What it does suggest is that the sales process is now taking a little longer than Andlauer expected. After all, he wouldn't be scheduling breakfast appearances – even tentative or delicious ones – if he thought the sales process might still be ongoing.

According to NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly, who spoke Tuesday at the NHL/NHLPA player media tour just outside Las Vegas, it could still be another week or so before the sale is finalized.

Daly called the transaction "fairly complicated" with a lot of people and background checks involved, but didn't seem remotely concerned that there are some last minute issues to resolve.

The Senators season begins to take shape on September 15th when many of their rookies compete in a prospects challenge tourney in Buffalo. Camp begins September 21st. And the regular season fires up October 11th with a road game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
