The NHL has many weird and obscure rules, but there is one that many may not know about - and it's definitely one of the more interesting ones.
Well, here's Rule 31.11 for you:
If refs can't make it to a game - and teams can't agree on replacements - the home teams decides on a player to ref their game, and the away team appoints a linesman.
And, yes, this has happened before. On Jan. 15, 1983, a blizzard in Hartford prevented the officiating crew from showing right away, and injured players Garry Howatt (New Jersey Devils) and Mickey Volcan (Hartford Whalers) were forced to officiate.
Which Penguins' player would you like to see ref a game in this situation? Let us know below!
