According to Josh Yohe of The Athletic, the Carolina Hurricanes were prepared to "pry one of Bryan Rust or Rickard Rakell out of Pittsburgh" had they not landed star winger Nikolaj Ehlers.

Heavy interest remains for both Penguins' wingers, who each registered 30-plus goals last season.
