Filip Larsson recorded his third shutout of the AHL season to lead the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 1-0 win over the Hershey Bears.
On Sunday night, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins netminder Filip Larsson was perfect, leading his team to an upset 1-0 victory over the AHL's Atlantic Division top team, the Hershey Bears.
For much of the season, the Bears, the affiliate of the Washington Capitals, have been atop the division. Despite their impressive 18-9-3 record, second-best in the league behind the Calgary Wranglers, the Bears are now 1-2 against the Penguins this season.
Last night, Larsson made 33 saves for this third shutout of the season. After getting some playing team with Pittsburgh during the pre-season, he's become one of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's top goalies.
Through 25 games, Larsson has played in nine games, the same total as Joel Blomqvist, who began the season in the NHL. He's 4-3-1 with a .923 SV% and a 2.51 GAA.
Initially drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the sixth round (167th overall) at the 2016 Draft, Larsson is back in North America this year, agreeing to a deal with the Penguins in April 2024.
After a brief tenure in the USHL, NCAA, AHL, and ECHL, Larsson, who was USHL Goaltender of the Year (2018), has been in Sweden for parts of the past four seasons, winning an HockeyAllsvenskan Championship in 2022.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, in third place in the Atlantic Division with a 16-8-1 record and 33 points, is off until Friday when it returns to action against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
