The Pittsburgh Penguins might be dealing with some more injuries following their recent win.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have fallen out of playoff positioning with three weeks left in the season, but are they better off missing the postseason?

Prior to their second game in back-to-back nights, the Pittsburgh Penguins recalled goalie Dustin Tokarski and forward Filip Hallander from the AHL.

The Penguins recalled both players on an emergency basis likely putting them in the lineup against the Dallas Stars.

Backup goalie Casey DeSmith missed a previous practice with an illness, but served as backup to Tristan Jarry against the Colorado Avalanche.

Tokarski’s call signifies that DeSmith is likely still sick and will not be ready to play in a game he was likely slated to start in.

Tokarski has been recalled on a couple of occasions this season already and has made four appearances with the Penguins at the NHL level.

In those four games, Tokarski has gone 1-2-0 with a .897 save percentage and 3.44 goals against average.

It is currently unclear why Hallander was recalled; he played a pair of games in November, but did not record a point.

Hallander played in his NHL debut during the 2021-22 season with the Penguins.

In 40 AHL games this season, Hallander has scored 11 goals and 22 assists for 33 points.

Head coach Mike Sullivan will speak before the Penguins take on the Stars in Dallas and will likely shed some light on why Tokarski and Hallander were given emergency recalls.

Since the recalls were made on an emergency basis, the Penguins still hold two normal recalls for the remainder of the season.
