The Pittsburgh Penguins organization has been rewarded for their efforts within the Pittsburgh community.
The NHL announced that the Pittsburgh Penguins are recipients of this year’s Stanley Award for social impact and growth.
Over the past year, the Penguins have played a part in multiple community programs to grow not only the sport of hockey, but have a positive change on the community.
The award is handed out annually to honor an NHL club for their business and marketing achievements.
"We are proud of our Penguins staff and partners for their commitment to positively impacting our Pittsburgh community and bringing greater diversity and inclusion to the game of hockey," said Penguins President of Business Operations Kevin Acklin. "We will continue to work hard every day to use the power of hockey to help overcome obstacles and build ladders of opportunity, and we thank the National Hockey League for recognizing our commitment to social impact."
After having a great deal of involvement in the creation of the Hunt Armory Ice Rink, the Penguins expanded their community outreach by partnering with U.S. Steel to lead a fundraising effort to revamp the Braddock Carnegie Library.
The Penguins also launched PPS All-Stars in 2022, a partnership with the Pittsburgh Public Schools that utilizes hockey to promote positive change in the city’s youth.
This is the Penguins’ third Stanley Award, but first in the category of social impact and growth.
