The Pittsburgh Penguins' power play has improved drastically over the past month.
The Pittsburgh Penguins' top power play unit features three first-ballot Hall of Fame players and a multi-time 40-goal scorer. For that reason, the expectations entering the season were at an all-time high.
The story began much differently for the Penguins' power play, including an 0 for 37 goalless stretch that lasted over a month from November 11th to December 13th. Jake Guentzel ended that historic drought and set the Penguins back on track on the man advantage.
In the month since, the Penguins have the 11th-ranked power play in the NHL, converting on 21.8% of their opportunities. Most recently, they've registered a power-play goal in four straight games, equal to the amount of games they've gone without a power-play goal since December 9th.
Leading the charge is the Penguins' captain Sidney Crosby. Crosby has a team-high four goals on the power play in that time and tied for the team lead in power play points with Jake Guentzel with seven.
The Penguins' power play still has plenty of room for improvement. The power play still ranks 25th in the NHL, but this past month has proven they can make those strides.
