The ownership group is apparently interviewing their initial candidates, and the rumors of who is apart of that group continue to build. The latest addition to the rumor mill is current New York Rangers assistant general manager, Ryan Martin. He's been working for the enemy, serving as the assistant general manager of the Rangers and GM for their AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, since August of 2021. Martin comes with nearly 20 years of NHL managerial and administrative experience, working in the Detroit Red Wings organization from 2005 until his hiring in New York. He also has a championship pedigree. He was a member of the front office team during the Detroit Red Wings 2008 Stanley Cup run, and oversaw Detroit's AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, en route to a 2017 Calder Cup championship. Running the minor league affiliate, he constructed a playoff caliber roster this season and is watching that team still contend for a Calder Cup trophy this postseason. But his contributions extend well beyond just the AHL. He's a premier scouter, with his abilities also being utilized by Team USA's junior and world championship management teams. As an assistant to team general manager Chris Drury, Martin supports in contract negotiations and analysis and salary cap compliance as well.
