Alex Nedeljkovic reacts to the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 shootout victory over his former team, the Carolina Hurricanes. For the third consecutive game, the Pittsburgh Penguins are starting Alex Nedeljkovic in goal. It’s not a completely surprising decision from Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan, as Nedeljkovic has been the more consistent goalie as of late, but Tristan Jarry has only played a complete game in almost two weeks. Jarry's last start was the 7-0 loss at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Heading into the holiday break, it was almost assumed Jarry would get in one more start before a few days off. Nedeljkovic is in the midst of his first season with the Penguins and is likely hunting for a new role as an NHL starter; so far he’s made a great name for himself as he’s returning to his rookie season form. In nine games this season, Nedeljkovic has a 5-2-1 record with a shutout, 2.38 goals against average, and the third best save percentage in the NHL at .927. He's also gone 3-0-1 through the month of December. No matter who the Penguins put in net, they have a good chance of keeping opposing teams out of the net as the team’s combined .913 save percentage is third in the league. Sullivan has said before that the Penguins have a great duo and there is a healthy compeititon between Jarry and Nedeljkovic with the common goal of helping the team win. If Nedeljkovic keeps up the good work, there could soon be a real discussion over who should be starting more games down the road this season. With both goalies performing extremely well, it’s safe to say there should be a bit of sharing the net between the two.
