Should fans be concerned that the Penguins playoff streak may be broken this year? For the second time in the 2022-23 season, the Pittsburgh Penguins are on a losing streak that has lasted longer than five games. The Penguins most recent loss to the Vegas Golden Knights extended their losing streak to six games. It’s been a roller coaster of a year for the team considering between these two losing streaks they were one of the hottest teams in the NHL with a 15-3-2 record. It’s safe to say that the personnel in the room aren’t pleased with their recent performance. "I'm sure everybody involved is frustrated, because our expectations are high,” Mike Sullivan said. “That's, without a doubt, one of the emotions that you deal with. But we can't allow frustration to get in the way of our ability to perform moving forward.” The last time the Penguins suffered multiple losing streaks reach six or more games was the 2005-06 season which also happens to be the last time they missed the postseason. Thanks to a deep Metropolitan Division, the Penguins currently sit outside of a playoff spot and continue to look inward as teams ahead of them are starting to break away. Sullivan also said that the team has to find a way to turn their frustration into determination if they want to succeed. “We just got to become more determined,” Sullivan said. “We got to find ways to be better hockey team." It’s easier said than done, but the Penguins have yet another opportunity to bounce back. The Penguins are off to take on the Arizona Coyotes at the college stadium of Mullett Arena; the atmosphere may be getting praised, but it's a less than ideal situation for the Yotes. It’s a situation the Penguins need to take advantage of and make their first statement win since before Christmas.
