Initially signed as an undrafted free agent, Aston-Reese debuted with the Penguins in 2017-18, missing out on the back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in 2016 and 2017. He skated with Pittsburgh for five seasons, scoring 29 goals and 62 points in 213 games. Aston-Reese was dealt to the Anaheim Ducks on Feb. 21, 2022, in exchange for Rickard Rakell. After departing Anaheim, he played 77 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2022-23 before three games with the Detroit Red Wings in 2023-24.
